The idea of "The New Dimension of Wind Power" was set in motion by seven renowned companies of the wind energy industry, who gave the company its name: wind 7 AG was founded in 1999 with its notarial authentication dated 22 September 1999 and an authorised capital of EUR 50,000.

The company is based in Eckernförde and has been registered at the local court under the trade register number HRB 944 on 27 October 1999 as a joint stock company.

The company is governed by German law.
